Product Claims and Evidence

Effective October 25, 2026. Last updated October 25, 2026.

In short

Every claim we make about hockey tape is backed by a source or a measurement. Where there is no evidence, such as tape colour or taping direction changing your shot, we say so. Ask and we will show you the evidence.

1. Why This Page Exists

Claims about products are regulated in Canada and the United States, and players deserve to know what is proven and what is not. This page sets out the kinds of claims hockeytape.ca makes, what supports them, and what we do not claim.

2. Facts About Tape

Facts about how hockey tape is made, its widths, roll lengths and types come from manufacturer specifications and product listings, which are linked on the page that uses them. Specifications change, so check the label on the roll you buy.

3. Rules

Statements about stick and tape rules are taken from the published rulebooks of the NHL, Hockey Canada and USA Hockey, and are linked to the rule. Leagues update their rules, and your league or referee has the final say.

4. Tape Estimates

The Tape Lab and our guides estimate how much tape a job uses from blade length, tape width and overlap. These are estimates, not guarantees. Real use depends on how tight you wrap, your trimming and your stick.

5. Performance

We do not claim that any tape, colour, direction or pattern will improve your shot, passing or puck control. Where players or coaches describe a benefit, we present it as their experience and link to the source. Where we know of no testing, we say the claim is untested.

6. Player Stories

Player tape jobs are documented from interviews, broadcasts, photographs and equipment reports, with sources linked. Our 3D recreations show only what the sources describe. Anything left undocumented is shown plain and listed as an assumption on the page.

7. What We Do Not Claim

  • That any brand or tape is the best, unless the page states the test and the result
  • That a product is eco-friendly, recyclable or sustainable
  • That any taping method prevents injury
  • That a stick model shown in the Tape Lab matches the maker’s exact specification. Models show shape and colour only, without logos, and use published specifications where available

If you find a claim on the site we cannot support, tell us and we will back it up or remove it.

8. Asking for Evidence

You can ask for the evidence behind any claim on the site by emailing [email protected]. We aim to respond within 10 business days.
