Privacy Policy

Effective October 25, 2026. Last updated October 25, 2026.

In short

We only collect personal information you choose to send through our two optional forms, plus the technical data our host needs to deliver the site. We set no cookies, run no analytics or ads tracking, and never sell or share your information. You can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold by emailing [email protected].

hockeytape.ca is a free educational guide to hockey tape. It is owned and operated by Scott Plumptree, an individual in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. There is no company behind it. In this policy, “we,” “our” and “us” mean hockeytape.ca and its operator.

We are responsible for the collection, use, disclosure and protection of personal information collected through this website. This policy explains what we collect, why, how we store and protect it, and the choices you have.

There is nothing to buy on this site, and there are no accounts, logins or payments. By using the site, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you choose to give us through our forms, and limited technical information that our host processes to deliver the site. We collect nothing automatically for marketing.

Personal Information You Provide

We collect personal information only through two optional forms.

“Share your story” form:

  • Name (optional)
  • Email address (optional, used only to follow up, never published)
  • Level, position, and team or league
  • A description of your blade tape and knob
  • Your story
  • Whether you want your name shown with your story
  • Your consent: “hockeytape.ca can edit and publish my story. My email stays private.”

Advertising enquiry form:

  • Company
  • Name
  • Email address
  • Areas of interest
  • Your message

Both forms also carry a hidden spam trap and a timestamp. These exist only to block bots.

Automatically Collected Information

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. To deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, Cloudflare processes technical data such as:

  • IP address
  • Browser type
  • Request logs

The footer shows you your own page-load time. This is measured in your browser and never sent anywhere.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Review your story and, with your consent, edit and publish it
  • Reply to advertising enquiries
  • Follow up on something you sent us
  • Keep the site secure and block spam

We do not sell or share personal information. We do no targeted advertising and no profiling. We have no mailing lists. We email you only to reply to something you sent.

We limit what we collect and how we use it to what is reasonably necessary for these purposes.

3. How Your Information Flows Through Our Systems

  1. Website: you submit a form on hockeytape.ca.
  2. Cloudflare Pages Function: receives the submission and delivers the site.
  3. Airtable: stores the submission for review.
  4. Scott Plumptree: reads and reviews each submission.
  5. The website again: if you consented, your edited story is published. Your name appears only if you ticked the box to show it. Your email is never published.

Each system handles your information only as needed to run the site.

4. Cookies and Tracking

The site sets no cookies and uses no browser storage. It runs no analytics, advertising pixels or third-party scripts. Fonts and images are self-hosted. A strict Content-Security-Policy blocks third-party scripts.

Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie to filter bots.

Because we do not sell or share personal information, there is nothing for a Global Privacy Control (GPC) or “Do Not Track” signal to switch off. See our Cookie Policy for details.

5. Service Providers

We use two service providers:

  • Cloudflare, Inc. (United States): hosting, form handling and security
  • Airtable (Formagrid Inc., United States): storage of form submissions

Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy policies. We do not control their practices.

6. Advertising and Sponsored Content

The site may sell clearly labelled sponsored placements, such as a brand in the 3D scene, sponsored tutorials or Tape Lab presets. Placements involve no tracking of visitors. Partners receive no visitor data from us, never write the site’s advice, and sponsored content is always labelled.

7. Sharing of Information

We share personal information only:

  • With the service providers listed above, to run the site
  • With the public, when you consent to publication of your story (your name only if you chose to show it)
  • With legal or regulatory authorities, when required by law

We do not sell, rent or share personal information for advertising.

8. Cross-Border Data Transfers

Cloudflare and Airtable are based in the United States. Your information may be processed and stored in the United States or other places where they operate. By using our forms, you consent to these transfers.

9. Data Retention

We keep submissions only as long as needed to review, publish or reply to them. We delete them on request.

10. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, including Canada and US states with privacy laws, you may have the right to:

  • Confirm whether we hold your personal information, and access it
  • Correct or delete it
  • Get a portable copy of it
  • Withdraw your consent, including consent to publish your story
  • Learn which third parties have received it
  • Appeal our decision on your request

US visitors keep the rights their state law gives them.

To exercise your rights, email [email protected] or see our Data Subject Access Request page.

11. California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you live in California, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect and how we use it
  • Request deletion or correction of your personal information
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information
  • Limit the use of sensitive personal information

We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not ask for sensitive personal information. See our California Notice at Collection and Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information pages.

12. Canadian Privacy Rights

We follow applicable Canadian privacy law, including the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, for people in Quebec, Quebec Law 25.

Depending on your province, you may have the right to:

  • Access your personal information
  • Request corrections
  • Withdraw consent, subject to legal limits
  • Request data portability and, where Quebec Law 25 applies, de-indexing

Scott Plumptree is responsible for protecting personal information and can be reached at [email protected]. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Quebec, the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.

We process personal information based on:

  • Your consent, when you submit a form
  • Our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure
  • Legal obligations

14. Data Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including a strict Content-Security-Policy, spam traps and established service providers. No method of internet transmission or electronic storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.

15. AI and Automated Decision-Making

Parts of the site, including code, text and 3D renders, were made with the help of AI tools and reviewed by a person. Every submission is read by a person. The site makes no automated decisions about people.

Player stories link to the published sources they summarize, and the site may link to other websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices.

17. Children’s Privacy

The site is for all ages. People under 13 should not submit a form without a parent or guardian. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information without a parent or guardian, email us and we will delete it.

18. Updates to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised date.
